June 23: “Rain, God’s Word, and Blessings Galore”

Isaiah 55:10–11 (CSB): “For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

The two verses that I have chosen for today are simple principles to understand. They also hold out the hope of incredible blessings if we understand them and comply with them.

First, we are told in verse 10 that rain falls from the sky and doesn’t return to the sky (evaporation) until after it has drenched the ground. It gives the ground the moister that it needs to help vegetation germinate and sprout. So, to grow things, we need the water that comes from the skies and that returns back to the skies.

That simple principle serves as an illustration for how God’s Word works. God has sent His Word, our Bible, from Heaven (simply meaning that He’s the ultimate author). God’s Word, following the picture of rain and evaporation, will return to Him. Yet, in between it’s descent and ascent, it is a source of great blessing to us.

So, the next time you sit down to read your Bible, picture yourself as parched ground that desperately needs rain. Picture God’s Word as rain that has come out of heaven for the purpose of bringing refreshing life to your soul. So read God’s Word slowly, reflectively, allowing it to soak into your conscience to do what God has intended for it to do.

God’s Word can encourage, inform, inspire, correct, rebuke, bring healing, … the possibilities are endless. So, spend some time each day soaking up Heaven’s rain in your soul as you read your Bible.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word, my Bible. It is a blessing to read the very words that proceed from God’s mouth. Help me as I commit to read it, seek to understand it, reflect on it, believe it, and apply it. Amen.
