Proverbs 27:3 (ESV) “A stone is heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.”

REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):

Proverbs is a fun book. It is saturated with wisdom. But, those wise sayings are communicated in ways that are mentally intriguing.

Our Verse for Today is one such proverb.

Everyone knows how heavy stones can be. If you have ever picked up a bag of sand, you realize how heavy that can be as well.

But, this proverb says that the “weight” of dealing with a fool is much heavier. Someone who is foolish will act stupid, or say unkind things, or recklessly handle a situation. The possibilities of how they could mess things up are endless. And to make things worse, the book of Proverbs makes it clear that a fool will not listen to instruction. So, the likelihood of them changing is slim-to-none.

We could grow exasperated by them or we could simply overlook them.

If you choose the former, the “weight” of dealing with a fool and his actions will overwhelm you. So, choose the latter. Overlook the fool. If they are working for you, warn them a couple of times and, if they don’t straighten up, replace them.

Finally, whatever you do, refuse to be a fool. Read the book of Proverbs. Read it over and over. Pray the words of James 1:5-8 and ask God for wisdom. Then, embrace the life-circumstances that He will send your way to grow you in wisdom.

To live this one life that God has given us, we need wisdom. Seek it with all your heart. Then, you will never have to worry about the consequences of being a fool.
