Comfort in discipline

Ezekiel 29:1–30:26
Hebrews 11:32–12:13
Psalm 112:1-10
Proverbs 27:17

Hebrews 12:7-8 (ESV) “It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.”

These verses provide yet another way that we can know that we are truly saved. If we sin and continue in it, does God send bad things our way as a form of loving discipline to bring us back to Himself.

If discipline doesn’t happen, then we aren’t God’s kids.

If discipline does happen, then we are God’s kids.

Friend, God loves you and me far too much to allow us to venture into a disobedient lifestyle that will harm us and rob Him of glory. So, we should expect Him to do what is in His and our best interest.

He really does love you. That’s why He disciplines you.

So, strive to live in the power of the Holy Spirit and abstain from sin. But, when you do sin and God brings discipline, find a measure of comfort in that discipline. It affirms that you belong to Him.
