Miscellaneous Mission Moments

The past two days have essentially been identical. I have met with local pastors for a pastor-training seminar while the rest of the team is leading a Vacation Bible School a few miles away.

My time with the pastors is from 9 AM until lunch and then until 3 PM. The rest of the gang is going strong from about 9 AM until 4 PM except for their lunch break.

The above picture is the group of guys I have had the privilege of getting to know. Ismael is the gentleman sitting to my left – he’s a great translator and a wonderful guy.

The others sitting around the table are Victor, Giermo, Filiberto, Raquel, & Istanislau. We’ve had a great time together talking about character and competencies that are required of and helpful to pastors.

One of the many laughable moments we shared was when I gave each of them a box of Hot Tamales. Many of them loved the candy … but others, not so much. One guy was laughing as he wiped the tears from his eyes. I wish I had been video-recording!

Sean and the rest of the youth have fit right in. Sean’s the only guy on the trip so the Guatemalan teenagers are enjoying his presence for things such as impromptu soccer drills.

Pastor Gustavo, in the blue hat at the end of the table, also led our group in an impromptu game after everyone finished their lunch yesterday. Lots of laughs!

As we gathered for a church service last night, I snapped a picture of my family’s whereabouts. Zach is still back in Murray while Kim and Joseph have made it to Florida. I can’t wait until all of the circles are united again!

Carey Alexander spoke at the church service.

Peggy and Rachel just won’t slow down. They worked all day and then doted on an infant at the church service.

That’s all the video and pictures I have as of now.

I have an incredible wife that God gave to me on May 10, 1997. Since then, the Lord has blessed us with three wonderful boys. I am also the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Polk City, Florida.
