January 3: “Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough”

Genesis 5:1–7:24
Matthew 3:7–4:11
Psalm 3:1-8
Proverbs 1:10-19

Matthew 4:1-2 (CSB) “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.”

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that has been practiced by Christians for the past two thousand years. It is a sad commentary on our current Christian climate that fasting is hardly ever practiced anymore.

Rather than write about this, I want to refer you to the best resource on fasting that I have ever used. At CRU’s (Crusade for Christ) website, you can read about what fasting is, why fasting is so important, how to fast safely, and so much more.

Simply click the following link: “Personal Guide to Fasting”

One other resource that may be of interest to you is a book that I purchased a few years ago that was also extremely helpful. It is written by a pastor who fasts regularly: “The Power of Prayer and Fasting” by Ronnie Floyd.

I have an incredible wife that God gave to me on May 10, 1997. Since then, the Lord has blessed us with three wonderful boys. I am also the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Polk City, Florida.
