REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):

Too many of us are far too individualistic. Maybe it’s because of insecurity. Maybe it’s because of pride. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to be a bother.

But the end result is often that we try to do things by ourselves. And the fact of the matter is that when we fail to invite others into the journey with us, we greatly diminish the degree of relationship we could have enjoyed and the success that we could have had.

As I write this (on Thursday, August 29th), Hurricane Dorian is making its way toward Florida. It is claimed that it could end up hitting the coast of Florida as a Category 4 Hurricane.

By the time you read this, we will all know what actually happened. If it turns into the monster hurricane that is currently predicted, we are going to need some serious manpower to do clean up.

As a Southern Baptist, this is one of the many things that we do very well. Almost certainly there are already conversations going on right now (August 29th) in Alpharetta, Georgia (headquarters of the North American Mission Board of the SBC) about mobilizing the Disaster Relief arm of the SBC if things get messy. Using SBC Cooperative Program dollars, and relying upon an army of volunteers, the SBC is preparing to flex its arms to help those in need, should that need arise.

One of the mottos that is said so often among Southern Baptists is that “we are better together.” We realize that what many of us, acting alone, cannot do, we can all do together as we work in unity.

That’s the message of our Verse for Today. It reminds us that while we may want to do things on our own, there is power in working in partnership with others.

Is there some task that you’re wanting to accomplish? Or some task that you even believe that God is calling you to do? Then consider inviting someone to join you.

You are better together!

Ecclesiastes 4:9 (CSB): “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts.”
