TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
Psalm 90:2 (CSB): “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God.”
REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
Our Verse for Today is a special one that we should keep in the forefront of our mind.
The God that we love and serve has always existed. “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world…”, God was already in existence.
In fact, the Bible simply begins with the assumption of God’s existence. “In the beginning, God…” (Genesis 1:1). God was already in existence.
But, our Verse for Today doesn’t just look to eternity past – it also looks to eternity future. God has always existed and always will exist.
Psalm 90:2 (CSB): “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God.”
Our minds cannot comprehend this. We cannot fathom a God who has never had a starting point. We are so limited by our time-conscious thinking that we cannot conceive of a God who is eternal in His existence.
But, God’s Word has said it and, as Jesus-followers, we must believe it. Besides, this conviction can bring us so much comfort!
- God is the One Constant in the universe as the One who always has and always will exist. When everything else in our life and world seems to be in chaos, God remains the same. In this, we can take comfort.
- God’s eternality speaks of His infinite power. Sure, He has always existed but the conviction that He will always exist makes it clear that He will overpower anyone and anything that would oppose Him. So, He is certainly powerful enough to handle anything that comes into our life. This is another reason for our internal comfort.
- God’s eternality pictures Him waiting for us to enter that eternality with Him. While we had a point in time in which we came into existence, we will always exist in the future. For those who have trusted in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life, our eternal existence will be with our God who will live together with us forever. This speaks of our future comfort … forever.
Take heart, my friend. You serve no wimpy God. You serve a God whose very eternal existence testifies to so many other wonderful truths. Believe in God’s eternality and all of the other things that it implies and find great comfort.
So, rest in Him today. Whatever you are going through, “He’s got this.”
