TODAY’S BIBLE READING:
TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
Proverbs 27:10 (CSB): “Don’t abandon your friend or your father’s friend, and don’t go to your brother’s house in your time of calamity; better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.”
REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
We all need relationships. We need them for our emotional well-being and we periodically need them to help us in a time of need.
The Bible acknowledges the benefit of family. Parents are responsible for taking care of and raising their children. Husbands are responsible to love and care for their wives. Men are primarily responsible to work so that they can take care of their household.
On and on we could go about the biblical mandates for and the blessings of family.
So today’s verse doesn’t diminish the value of family. It simply says that there are times when some other select relationships might be better.
Our verse today tells us that we should work to maintain meaningful friendships. Don’t let them slip by the wayside. Why? Because those are the very people that may stand ready to help you when calamity strikes. It might be that your family is unwilling or unable to help but your friends will be there for you.
If nothing else, this verse reminds us of the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships. We need each other.
