REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):

In our Verses for Today, we hear something profound and something … um … nasty.

First, the nasty part.

The word “vomit” actually shows up in the text. In some translations, it says “spit” or “spew.” Essentially, the word speaks of expelling something out of the body very quickly. It could be translated “spit” but “vomit” is also a fair rendering.

Now, back to the first part of the verses. What is so undesirable that Jesus wants to get rid of it like someone who is spitting or vomiting?

Lukewarm Christianity!

Revelation 3:15-16 (CSB): “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.”

Simply put, Jesus would prefer that we either be passionately on fire for Him (hot) or passionately in sin (cold).

Why?

Because if we are on fire for Him, He can fan the flame even hotter.

If we are cold and in sin, then He can lovingly discipline us to bring us back.

But if we are straddling the fence, what can He do? We aren’t excited about anything so there is no flame to fan or extinguish. We are indifferent. And He can’t really do much with us.

Friends, commit to getting off the fence and being passionate about Jesus. Love the Lord God with all your heart. Seek to serve Him with reckless abandon. Commit wholeheartedly to quickly and completely obey Him when He speaks.

God is looking for people like this. Will you be someone He can use? I hope so.
