REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
What does God enjoy? What puts a smile on His face? Our Verses for today give us the answer.
Psalm 147:11 (CSB): “The LORD values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.”
What’s the fear of the Lord mean? In another post, I wrote: “It is an experience of Almighty God Himself. But, included in that experience is a healthy fear. Experiencing God is what our souls long for, it brings us our greatest joy, but He isn’t to be trifled with. But, as long as we abide by the rules He has laid down before us, we are free to enjoy the experience.”
When we look back at our Verses for Today, we realize that the fear of the Lord is qualified.
Psalm 147:11 (CSB): “The LORD values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.”
The people who are valued by the Lord are those who fear him but do so as they find comfort in the fact that He desperately loves them. They aren’t afraid. They have a very healthy respect for the Lord but they bask in His love.
So, when we step back and assess what this verse is saying, it is telling us that the Lord values those who find their delight in Him. In essence, both the worshiper and the worshipped are made happy.
