Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

As we read Genesis 18, we observe Jesus talking to Abraham. In case you doubt that it was Jesus, you can click here to read a previous post I wrote about “Jesus in the Old Testament.”

But, to get to the point of this post, we read in Genesis 18:14 where Jesus asked a rhetorical question. He asked a question in which the answer was already known.

Genesis 18:14 (CSB): “Is anything impossible for the Lord? …”

The clear answer, that both Jesus and Abraham knew, was that nothing is impossible for the Lord. He can do anything He desires to do, no matter how difficult it may seem.

So, what are the implications for you and me? Well, it means that the God we pray to can do anything He pleases, no matter how impossible it may seem. In fact, in Genesis 18:22-33, we learn that God is fine when we respectfully engaged in a back-and-forth with Him in prayer. So persist in passionate prayer with a God to whom nothing is impossible.

This also has profound applications for our attitudes. Sure, it’s easy to get down in the dumps when things head south. When life chews us up and spits us how, it’s super easy to get discouraged. But, when we are reminded that nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible for the Lord, then that also includes our circumstances. God is actively working all things out for our ultimate good no matter how bad things may seem. Nothing can get to us before it go through Him. He’s just that powerful!

So, my friend, keep your chin up. Pray from a place of victory. Think like someone who knows His God, who desperately loves him, is so powerful that nothing is impossible for Him. After all, we’re talking about your elder Brother, Jesus!

Genesis 18:14 (CSB): “Is anything impossible for the Lord? …”

Lord Jesus, thank You so for the reminder that nothing is impossible for You. I don’t serve a wimp. Instead, I serve a God who can simply speak to the waves and storm and immediately calm them down. Help me to better understand just how powerful You are and then live in light of that truth. Amen.
