Today’s Bible Reading:

Numbers 24
Psalms 66-67
Isaiah 14
1 Peter 2

Today’s Bible Verse(s):

“Balaam answered Balak, ‘Didn’t I previously tell the messengers you sent me: If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the LORD’s command, to do anything good or bad of my own will? I will say whatever the LORD says.’”
Numbers 24:12-13 (CSB)

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

Balaam doesn’t appear to be a follower of God. He seems to be a priest-for-hire that dabbled in worship of a bunch of different gods, including the God of Israel. Yet, God in His grace spoke to and through Balaam.

Regardless of Balaam’s relationship with the Lord, his words are powerful. If only we could say them, mean them, and live by them.

Read carefully over them again. Listen to Balaam’s resolve to do as God said regardless of what it would cost him in gold and silver. Listen as he makes it clear that he will only say what the Lord had given him to say.

Numbers 24:12-13 (CSB): “Balaam answered Balak, ‘Didn’t I previously tell the messengers you sent me: If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the LORD’s command, to do anything good or bad of my own will? I will say whatever the LORD says.’”

Lord Jesus, I’m tired of being apathetic in my walk with You. I’ve taken You and my walk in holiness with far too little determination. I want to have the resolve of Balaam to obey every one of Your commands regardless of what it costs me. But, I realize that my resolve isn’t enough. I need Your grace and Your power flowing through me to accomplish this. Help me, Lord, I pray. Amen.
