Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
Keni Thomas did an incredible job in his book, “Get It On!,” when he described his part in the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. As a decorated military veteran, he looked back on an incident in which he worked as an Army Ranger to rescue his military comrades whose lives were thrown into jeopardy when their Black Hawks were shot down over Mogadishu. (Yes, we’re talking about what was turned into the movie called, “Black Hawk Down.”)
Keni and a bunch of other military guys risked their lives in an attempt to save the men who had survived the helicopter strike. Many of the men who participated in the rescue mission lost their lives.
With that picture in your mind, reread the verse I have chosen for today.
Colossians 1:13 (CSB): “He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”
You and I were born in the domain of darkness. We were separated from God and were dead in our sins. We were clearly in Satan’s dominion.
We sometimes talk about salvation in a way that causes salvation to simply be a decision that we make. Sure, it is transferring your trust and relying upon what Jesus did for you and me on the cross. Yet, there was something very profound that happened when we got saved. Do you know what it was? It was a rescue mission. God invaded the enemy’s territory, which cost His Son His life, in order to rescue you and me and get us safely transferred into His own territory.
Colossians 1:13 (CSB): “He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”
If you are saved, then you, my friend, participated in a rescue mission. You were the helpless captive behind enemy lines as God invaded the enemy’s territory and took You captive. If you are saved, you are now in the wonderful kingdom of the Son He loves.
Have you thanked God recently?

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life to obtain my rescue. I pray that my life from this day on would express my gratitude to what You did and continue to do for me. Thank you! Amen.
