Today’s Bible Reading:

1 Chronicles 28
2 Peter 2
Micah 5
Luke 14

Today’s Bible Verse(s):

1 Chronicles 28:20 (CSB): “Then David said to his son Solomon, ‘Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He won’t leave you or abandon you until all the work for the service of the LORD’s house is finished.’”

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have the promise that Solomon was given in 1 Chronicles 28:20? Wouldn’t it be great to know that God was with us and that our attempt at doing what we believe He called us to do would achieve success?

1 Chronicles 28:20 (CSB): “Then David said to his son Solomon, ‘Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He won’t leave you or abandon you until all the work for the service of the LORD’s house is finished.’”

Well, my friend, you have such a promise!

First of all, if you are saved, then God is with you. In fact, God is IN you! Here are just a few of the verses that tell us that God’s Spirit dwells inside those of us who belong to Him.

Romans 8:9 (CSB): “You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.”

1 Corinthians 3:16 (CSB): “Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?”

1 Corinthians 6:19 (CSB): “Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? …”

Galatians 4:6 (CSB): “And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba, Father!’”

Now, what about fulfilling God’s purposes? What about our effectiveness in doing what God has called us to do.

For the answer to this, we simply need to visit Joshua 1:6-9. There we are told that Joshua was promised success in what God had called him to do. We know that Joshua had been trained under his mentor, Moses, so he had the necessary skills. But there were three more things he needed in order to be fruitful in what God had called him to do.

Joshua 1:6–9 (CSB): “6 Be strong and courageous, for you will distribute the land I swore to their ancestors to give them as an inheritance. 7 Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go. 8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. 9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

So, in order to be effective, let’s restate what we just said:

  • Find a relevant promise(s) of God and rest our faith upon it.
  • Read God’s Word and obey it instantly and completely so that God is free to bless us.
  • Rest in the fact that God is always within us, realizing that God and is (even if there is no one else) always makes a majority. This is a major confidence builder.

While we realize that God does not always measure success the way that we do, and while we realize that some things that are in God’s will appear to be unjust and unsuccessful, we rest in the fact that as we comply with the previous biblical principles, God will work out His purposes through us.

Lord Jesus, I want to be accessible to You. I also want to be restfully available so that You can work out Your purposes through me. I desire to live a life of purpose but I will allow You to define and measure my degree of success. I will also look forward to eternity when I will be able to see my life and its affect in a whole new light. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
