Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
Sadly, far too many Christians have formulated an unbiblical understanding of who God is and what He is like. Further, they don’t feel compelled to study their Bibles in order to correct their wrong views. So, they doom themselves to live their one life on planet earth, interacting with a view of God that doesn’t excite them or help them.
Here’s one prevalent, unbiblical view of God: He is serious, all the time. He never smiles. He leaves the laughter and happiness to us.
When you think of God, do you “see” Him as a happy God? Do you imagine Him laughing, smiling, and filling with joy?
I hope so because the Bible is filled with verses that tell us that our God is a happy God (see Deuteronomy 30:9; Jeremiah 32:41; Zephaniah 3:17; John 15:11; etc.).
So, what brings God delight? What puts a smile on His face?
The answer to that question is multi-faceted. There are so many things that the Scripture tells us that put a smile on our God’s face. The verse I have chosen for today gives us a reason for God’s happiness.
Psalm 37:23 (NLT): “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
This verse tells us that the Lord is intricately involved in every single detail of our life, including the “steps” (decisions, actions, words, etc.) we take each day. And as we seek the Lord’s guidance and take those “steps” each day, the Lord finds pleasure in every single detail of our life. He knows that every detail is intended for our ultimate good (to make us more like Jesus) and for His glory.
So, everything we do in submission to His leadership today brings a smile to our God’s face. It brings Him pleasure. Keep that in mind today as you make your way through this day. Realize that as you rely upon Him, He’s smiling as He looks at you.
