5 Minute Read

Be Still

To the best of your ability, get rid of all distractions. Take a couple of minutes to breathe deeply, to quiet yourself in the Lord’s presence. Then, prayerfully ask the Lord to speak to you in this time and let Him know that you will be listening and will make whatever adjustments He will reveal to you.

Today’s Bible Reading:

Job 12:1–15:35
1 Corinthians 15:29-58
Psalm 39:1-13
Proverbs 21:30-31

Listen to the Lord

Slowly and reflectively read the following verses and listen to what God will say to you through them. Then, consider writing down any insights He reveals to you.

Proverbs 21:31 (NLT): “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD.”

Reflections from Scripture:

Just as a horse was prepared for battle, we must prepare for this day if we expect to accomplish some worthy goals and achieve any victories.

Yet, our preparation does not guarantee success. Our preparation only puts us in a position to pray for victory, but it does not ensure success. As the above verse states, “Victory belongs to the LORD.”

Just as a farmer would be foolish to pray for a massive harvest if he didn’t plant, so would a warrior be a fool who prayed for a victory if he didn’t prepare for the battle. Likewise, it would also be foolish of us to pray for success this day if we don’t get ready for it.

But, just as the farmer and warrior depend upon the Lord to bless their efforts, so must we rely upon the Lord for this day’s potential successes.

Essentially, it’s a partnership. Do your part, and God will do His part. But we must be clear that if we achieve some degree of success today, it’s not our preparation that ultimately achieved it – it is God’s grace.

So look at your calendar and “to do” list for today. What activities do you need to prepare for? Determine to prepare and give each activity your best effort. But, ultimately, depend upon the Lord to bless your efforts. Only He can graciously give the victory, at least as far as Heaven and eternity define victory.

Spend Time in Prayer

Lord Jesus, just as a farmer has to plow and plant and then pray for rain, I realize that I need to prepare for what lies before me today and then pray for Your blessings. Help me, Lord, to understand my part and give me the faith to trust You to do your part. I pray this in Your Name, Amen.
