5 Minute Read
To the best of your ability, get rid of all distractions. Take a couple of minutes to breathe deeply, to quiet yourself in the Lord’s presence. Then, prayerfully ask the Lord to speak to you in this time and let Him know that you will be listening and will make whatever adjustments He will reveal to you.
Today’s Bible Reading:
Listen to the Lord
Slowly and reflectively read the following verses and listen to what God will say to you through them. Then, consider writing down any insights He reveals to you.
Psalm 144:3-5 (NLT): “O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them, mere mortals that you should think about them? For they are like a breath of air; their days are like a passing shadow. Open the heavens, LORD, and come down….”
Reflections from Scripture:
In Psalm 144:3-5, King David acknowledged a few things.
He began by stating the obvious – that humanity is unworthy of God’s notice. But then, he clearly implied that God did take notice. And he stood in wonder at why God would do such a thing.
But, then, as verse 5 begins, he says: “Open the heaven, LORD, and come down….”
Friends, this is precisely what God did! He sent His Son to be born that first Christmas morning so that He could pursue an even more intimate relationship with us.
Why He would do such a thing is beyond our comprehension. But, to those who gladly receive Him, there is an adventure of journeying deep into the heart of God. We are invited to enjoy Him in this life and in the life to come.
As so many gifts are opened on this Christmas day, have you received the greatest gift of all? The gift of forgiveness and eternal life by trusting in Jesus and what He did on the cross for you? Why not do that today? Right now?
Spend Time in Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for participating with the Father in the plan of redemption. Thank You that You were willing to temporarily lay aside much of what was rightfully Yours in Heaven so that You could come to earth. Thank You that You paid the sin debt to a holy God for any person that will place their trust in You. And if I have not previously placed my trust in You to make me right in God’s eyes, I want to do that before this day is through. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
