Introduction

Welcome to the June 21st episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast. I’m Matt Ellis, and I’m the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Polk City, Florida.

Today’s reading is Esther 3-5. But since there is no New Testament reading today, I’d like to simply pray for you today.

If you have questions about anything in the Old Testament reading assignment, please email me at mattellis1997@gmail.com. I may answer it on the next podcast.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, as we read today about Haman’s plot to kill Mordecai, we were reminded that outright evil exists in this world. We were reminded that injustice could happen to the most devout God-followers. It is so unfair, but it is the experience we must endure of living in a broken world.

But, Lord, help us remember that no matter what injustice people may plot or what evil may happen, You are reigning supreme on Your throne in Heaven. So please help us to find comfort in the fact that nothing can happen unless you actively will it to happen or allow it to happen. And even then, You have told us that You intend to work everything that happens to us for our good – that is, to make us more like Jesus.

Enable us to find comfort in Your presence regardless of what happens to us, Lord. Help us in the injustice to spend much time in prayer with You. Draw us closer to You, and help us depend more upon You as we experience the difficulties and unfairness of this life. And cultivate within us an even greater longing for the day when we will enjoy being in Your presence, away from sin and its consequences, forever.

We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
