Script for the June 24th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast.

Introduction

Welcome to the June 24th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast. I’m Matt Ellis, and I’m the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Polk City, Florida.

Today’s reading is Job 1-2. But since there is no New Testament reading today, I’d like to simply pray for you.

If you have questions about anything in the Old Testament reading assignment, please email me at mattellis1997@gmail.com. I may answer it on the next podcast.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, today’s Bible reading in Job reminds us that none of us are immune to difficulties in life. Bad things happen even to the godliest of people. It’s just what happens in a broken Genesis 3 world.

As we read about Job, we realize that he couldn’t possibly have known why his life fell apart. He did not know about the conversation in Heaven. All he knew was that his life had collapsed around him.

So, help us realize that we may never know this side of Heaven why bad things happen to us. Let us not waste our time questioning You when those bad things happen. We pray that we never get stuck questioning Your wisdom or justice, or doubt Your love for us. Instead, help us cling to You even tighter, trusting that You know what is best.

Lord Jesus, the world is watching when we experience troubles. They are looking to see if we really believe in You and cling to You, or if we respond just like them. So help us demonstrate a robust faith in You when it matters the most.

We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
