Have you ever wanted to dig into God’s Word a little more deeply than what you might get in a typical Sunday morning sermon?

My observation is that many people who profess to be Christians aren’t really students of their Bible. If a tough question is asked of them, they will tend to appeal to the pastor or someone else they deem to be an “expert” rather than dig into God’s Word for themselves.

That’s why I don’t preach a second sermon on Sunday evenings. I preach on Sunday mornings, but Sunday evenings are more oriented around digging deeper into God’s Word. I want to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4:11-12), essentially working myself out of a job.

Currently, I have encouraged Polk City First Baptist Church to read through the Bible in this year. I handed a reading plan out at the end of last year, and many people are following along. So, on Sunday evenings, I’m diving into misunderstood or difficult passages in the texts that were read over the previous week.

This past Sunday evening, we dove into questions like:

  • Can we use strategy in helping others for the sake of the Gospel?
  • Do we have guardian angels?
  • Jesus has always been and will always be God. But was there a point when He took on the role of “Son of God?”
  • What does the Bible say about out-of-body experiences?
  • Etc.
