5 Minute Read
Prepare Your Heart
To the best of your ability, get rid of all distractions. Take a few minutes to breathe deeply and quiet yourself in the Lord’s presence. Then, ask the Lord to speak to you in this time. Let Him know that you will listen and make whatever adjustments He will reveal to you.
Read God’s Word
Genesis 47-48
Matthew 14:22-15:9
A Verse for Today
Slowly and reflectively read the following verse(s) and listen to what God will say to you through His written Word. Consider writing down any insights He reveals to you.
Matthew 14:25 (CSB): “Jesus came toward them walking on the sea very early in the morning.”
Reflecting on God’s Word
The verse I chose today tells us that Jesus walked on the Sea of Galilee. While we believe this story, it clearly falls outside of what is expected and natural. People can’t “walk on water,” which makes this verse stand out as a miracle.
Instead of providing some devotional thoughts on this verse, I want to share some pictures and videos of the Sea of Galilee. Kim and I visited Israel in 2018, and I captured quite a bit of footage of the Sea. I hope the following helps you visualize the place where the miracle of Matthew 14:25 took place.

Spend Time in Prayer
- The disciples saw Jesus walk on the water; you haven’t. So, ask the Lord to give you a clearer vision of Jesus and the faith to believe it.
Going Deeper
If you want to dig a little deeper into the importance of the Sea of Galilee, consider reading the following GotQuestions article:
