Our summer vacation this year is much like the vacations we took years ago with our sons. Kim’s love for adventure and exploration has enabled us to explore many places I probably would not have visited if it weren’t for her. But because of those trips, our family has made a lot of memories together that we enjoy talking about from time to time.

But, this morning, I told Kim that I’m just about “explored out.” I’m ready to head back home and get busy being productive.

Before we travel back home, there’s one last place we want to visit. Lincoln, Nebraska, is home to the International Quilt Museum. Kim got into quilting a few years ago, and I wanted to visit that museum while we are in the Midwest.

However, it’s not open on Mondays. So we had a free day today.

We woke up in Omaha and went to Planet Fitness for a good workout. Then, we went to the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Omaha. It’s a 3,000-foot-long bridge that connects Nebraska and Iowa. In the middle of the bridge, you can stand above the Missouri River with one foot in Iowa and another in Nebraska.

Here’s the spot where we stood in two states at once.

While we have visited many incredible locations on this vacation, we have enjoyed the moments and our God who made these moments possible. I have enjoyed taking pictures of Kim as she relaxes and enjoys the moment. (Downtown Omaha is in the background.)

I took this picture from the Iowa side as we turned around and prepared to head back to our vehicle on the Nebraska side.

Here’s a final picture on the bridge.

As we made our way through downtown on our drive back to the hotel, we passed the Mutual of Omaha building. For many, when they think of this company, they think of insurance. When people my age and older think of this company, we think of “Wild Kingdom.” Am I right?

After returning to the hotel to clean up, we packed our vehicle and drove to Lincoln, home of the International Quilt Museum. We went to a theater to watch “Young Washington” (a movie I would highly recommend!), and then settled in for the evening.

Tomorrow, we will visit the Quilt Museum and then begin our trek back home.
