TODAY’S BIBLE READING:
TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (ESV) “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”
REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):
In our Verse for Today, we read of a New Testament truth embedded in the Old Testament.
In the context, God was upset with His rebellious people. They had strayed from Him into sin with no desire to repent and come back to God. So, God said that there was coming a time when He would bring them back. But, it wouldn’t be because of their supposed goodness – because they were far from good. It would be because He desired to defend the glory of His Name (Ezekiel 36:22-25).
In that future time, God says that He will give them a new heart and give them the Holy Spirit. That’s what began to happen on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2) and has continued to happen to every believer sense then.
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Friend, this happened to you if you are saved. Your heart of stone that was indifferent to God and His rule over your life was replaced with a heart of flesh that can feel and experience the power of His Word and His presence in your life. It can also feel conviction of sin that motivates you to repent and make things right with God.
Finally, He gave you the Holy Spirit. He is God the Holy Spirit who has come to take up residence within you. He reminds you of God’s truth. He convicts you of sin. He leads you into relationship with the Father. And so much more.
Friend, if you are saved, you didn’t simply make a decision. There were powerful, tangible changes that happened in you.
So, today, live like who you are. You have been given the resources. Depend upon God’s Holy Spirit and live like the child of God that you are.
