TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):

Hebrews 5:11-12 (CSB): “We have a great deal to say about this, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand. Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food.”

REFLECTIONS ON TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE(S):

Our Verses for Today provide us with something to avoid at all costs. In fact, the words would sting horribly if we knew for a fact that they were directed at us.

Essentially, the writer of Hebrews is digging deep into the truths about Jesus and showing his Jewish audience that He is what the Old Testament was pointing to. He is the one greater than all who came to fulfill the Law and provide redemption for all who would believe.

Yet, in our Verses for Today, he seems to be a little frustrated. He wants to share much more … but he finds that desire futile.

Why?

Because the folks he’s writing to wouldn’t understand it.

Why?

Because they were spiritually obtuse.

Why?

Because they hadn’t spent enough time digging into God’s Word and obeying it so that they could understand deeper truths.

Do you want to understand more of God’s Word? Then it will take work. It will take much time reading and studying your Bible. It will take a commitment to quickly and whole-heartedly obey God’s Word. And it will take a growing desire to know God and His Word more and more.

But, if we do these things, then we will come to realize that it is absolutely gratifying to understand deeper truths about God and His Word. And it will never be said of us what was said of those first-century believers…

Hebrews 5:11-12 (CSB): “We have a great deal to say about this, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand. Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food.”
