January 1: “Made in God’s Image”

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

Based upon what I read in Genesis 1:26-27, I can tell you without any reservation whatsoever that you are a person of incredible value, my friend!

While so many people base their value upon superficial things like what they have, who they know, what they’ve done, what they look like, or anything else of the sort, your value is based upon something so much more substantive. Your worth is based upon something that can never be taken away.

Simply put, you are of incredible value because you are created in God’s image!

We all know what it’s like to see a striking resemblance between a parent and a child. They share so many of the same features and it’s easy to see that they are related.

Well, friend, Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that you bear a striking resemblance to God. You are made in His image. If I were to look you in the eyes right now, I would see so many similarities to Him.

While theologians like to discuss what attributes we share with God (our expression of those attributes being so much inferior to Him), I simply want you to hear me say that when I see you, I see God’s masterpiece. I see His fingerprints all over you. While you struggle with sin (like the rest of us) and while you realize all too often that you are imperfect (like the rest of us), you are God’s creation, His masterpiece.

Be encouraged today, my friend. Your worth is based upon who you are. You are God’s creation, made in His image. So, spend time getting to know your Creator today.

Lord God, thank You for placing such incredible value upon me. As I reflect upon my own faults and failures, and as I reflect upon the fact that You know everything about me (even the things that I wish You didn’t know), I don’t feel worthy of the value You have placed on me. So, this day, help me to see myself as You see me but to do so with a great deal of humility and gratitude to You. Thank You for loving me, Amen.
