Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
This school year has been incredibly rough on my youngest son. I moved my wife and Joseph to Florida last summer as I took the pastorate of First Baptist Church in Polk City. Essentially, he’s had to start over with making friends and that in itself has proved to be incredibly difficult, especially since he ended up being homeschooled for the first time in his life. So, he spends most weekdays by himself. His world got very small very quickly. There ought to be special rewards in heaven for being a part of a pastor’s family.
But, through the loneliness and difficulties in which he finds himself, Joseph’s walk with Jesus has deepened. We are spending much more time talking about the Bible and spiritual matters.
A few days ago, Joseph and I were in the car and he asked me if we would have Bibles in Heaven. He wondered if our knowledge would be perfected when we arrived in our heavenly home. If so, and since we would finally experience and live out the righteousness of Christ, why would we need God’s Word since we would then innately obey it?
I reminded him of the story found in Luke 24:13-35. I pointed out that the disciples heard Jesus recount all of the hidden mysteries in the Old Testament. They heard Him tell them of all the places in the Old Testament that pointed to Him.
What was the disciples’ response?
Luke 24:32 (CSB): “They said to each other, ‘Weren’t our hearts burning within us while he was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?’”
I told Joseph that I believe that the Bible will be present in Heaven, if for no other reason, because we will find great joy in hearing Jesus reveal truths that are hidden within it. We will, like those disciples on the road to Emmaus, want to hear Jesus explain the deeper meanings of the text so that “our hearts (will burn) within us.”
But, friend, you don’t have to wait for Heaven to enjoy the thrill of discovery in your Bible. You can pray this morning and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truths to you. You can also pick up a Bible study resource that is written by godly men and women who can mine out those incredible truths for you to enjoy.
Just spend time in your Bible today and experience the joy of discovery.

Lord Jesus, Your Word is incredible. I know that I’ve hardly scratched the surface and there is so much more that I don’t yet know. Help me to enjoy the thrill of discovery as I read it. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will reveal truths to me that I can enjoy and apply to my life. And I look forward to the time in Heaven when I can sit around Your throne, listen to You explain the Scriptures, and have the wonderful happiness of listening. Amen.

I especially enjoyed reading this post as have always been so fond of Joseph…great question and you answered it positively!
