5 Minute Read + Scripture readings

Today’s Bible Reading:

Numbers 33
Psalms 78:1-37
Isaiah 25
1 John 3

Today’s Bible Verse(s):

1 John 3:1 (CSB): See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children—and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him.

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

If someone were to come up to you and ask you who your Dad was, how would you answer? I assume you would answer by giving your Dad’s name. In my case, I’d say, “My Dad’s name is Larry.”

But, if you are saved, you actually have another father. In fact, we really should capitalize the “F” on Father because we’re talking about our Heavenly Father.

That’s what we are told in the verse I have chosen for today.

1 John 3:1 (CSB): “See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children—and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him.”

Friend, if you want to feel really good about who your Heavenly Father is, just go outside on a clear night, look up at the stars, and realize that your Heavenly Dad is so infinitely powerful that He created those out of nothing. Realize that He is so infinitely knowledgeable that He’s given a name to every single one of the billions of stars and everything else in outer space.

Then look through a microscope and realize that God is so infinitely powerful that He created everything you see, and all of the things that are too small to see. He created the cell, the atom, and the incredibly complex DNA strand.

Then read in the Old Testament about all of the evidences of God’s holiness and how much He hates lawbreakers. Then, go to the New Testament, realize that God’s justice demands that He send all lawbreakers to Hell, and read about the Great White Throne (Revelation 20:11-15) from where He will send them.

Finally, look to the climax of earth’s history – the cross. Read the Gospel accounts of what Jesus endured and realize that He died to take the sin debt of every single person who will ever trust in Him. Realize that this all came about because “God so loved the world…” (John 3:16).

All of these incredible things and more are true of God …

… And . He’s . Your . Heavenly . Dad!!!

Lord Jesus, I pray that I wouldn’t listen to the world’s assessment of my identity. I pray that I would come to see myself as You see me. Help me today to embrace, even more, the truth that I really am a child of the God of all Creation. And, by the way, that means that You are my elder brother, Jesus. I am so overwhelmed with Your grace! Thank you! Amen.
