Today’s Bible Reading:
Today’s Bible Verse(s):
Isaiah 26:3 (CSB): “You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.”
Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
Trust and peace go hand in hand. Our verse for today says that our minds will be at peace when we are trusting in Jesus.
The assumption is that bad things are happening which would rob us of peace. Yet trusting in the Lord can give us the peace we crave and need.
So, how does this work?
Well, there were quite a few times when I was driving my family through horribly congested traffic or dangerous weather. At any moment, a serious wreck could happen which might cause serious injury to those I love the most.
But, while I was stressed, my young boys were playing in the backseat. They laughed. They joked. They made lots of noise. They weren’t bothered at all by the traffic or weather.
Why was I stressed and they were experiencing “perfect peace.” Because they were trusting in me! They had come to believe that their dad was capable of handling any situation that came his way so they weren’t scared at all.
When bad times are surrounding us, and when we are tempted to be anxious, it is a good time to see whether or not we are truly trusting in the Lord. Because we cannot trust and stress at the same time.

If we have developed a strong faith in the Lord, believing Him to be bigger than anything that comes our way, we will find that our trust will provide us with peace.
So, it may not be a good question to ask: “Are you trusting in the Lord?”
A better question is: “Are you experiencing peace even as the storm rages around you?” The presence or absence of peace will testify to the presence or absence of trust in the Lord.

Lord Jesus, I know that I trust You. But I realize all too often that my trust in You isn’t powerful enough to give me inner, perfect peace. Please give me grace to trust You more. Amen.
