Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

Yesterday (Wednesday), Kim, Sean, Joseph, and I made our way from Florida to Kentucky. We are here to prepare for and participate in the marriage of our oldest son, Zach, to his beautiful, wonderful bride, Dani (Danielle).

On the way here, we stopped at rest stops, gas stations, and fast food restaurants. We saw white people, black people, and all sorts of other shades of skin. And it became obvious that the average person on the streets, regardless of their skin color, is kind and respectful of others. If you watch the media and see the rioting and looting, you’ll think that our nation is crumbling but I am convinced that the average American is good-hearted and just wants to live in a free country where freedoms and opportunities exist for all.

To be sure, there are certainly people in our world who are filled with blind hate and evil prejudice. But we need to realize that our God loves all the different peoples of the world. “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.”

And as we strive to become more like Jesus, we realize that our God loves the different people groups of the world so much that He has made sure that each one is represented in our eternal home. That’s the message we get loud and clear as we read our verses for today.

Revelation 7:9-10 (CSB): “After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

So, let’s enjoy each other while we’re here on planet earth. And let’s look forward to the day when we all celebrate together and worship our great God!

Lord Jesus, I pray that when I see prejudice in my thinking that I would see it as sin and immediately repent of it. I pray that You would replace my prejudice, in whatever form it takes, with love. Lord, I realize that while You take sin seriously, You even love the worst of sinners and died on the cross so that they might be forgiven and come to know and enjoy You. Help me to have Your heart for others. Amen.
