Today’s Bible Reading:
Today’s Bible Verse(s):
“Deuteronomy 10:12–13 (CSB): “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul? Keep the Lord’s commands and statutes I am giving you today, for your own good.”
Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
As I type this, I’m sitting on the steps at the front of the sanctuary in which my oldest son will be married in about 3 hours. My heart is overwhelmed with happiness and a lot of other emotions. We are so happy for him and we’re also happy for us, that we’re getting such a wonderful daughter-in-law.
So, as I was reading through today’s Bible readings this morning, I couldn’t help but notice the last four words of today’s Bible verses.
“For your own good.”
God has given us commands but they are “for your own good.”
God knows how He made us, He knows how we function best, and He knows what principles we should comply with for our own good.
So, when we look at God’s Word, we realize that God has intended each command to be for human flourishing.
Kim and I have had 23 years of marriage that has been filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Through it all, the Lord has drawn us closer to Himself. We have personally discovered that obeying and following the Lord is what has enabled us to survive much that has been our experience.
Today, we place our hands of blessing upon our oldest son as he embarks on his own adventure as a married man. We are so happy that he has also discovered that following and obeying the Lord is the way to human flourishing.
Friend, God really does love us. He doesn’t guarantee that “bad” things won’t happen but He desires for us to know and obey Him so that we can experience incredible blessings along the way.

Lord Jesus, thank You so much for giving us the written Word and for giving us Yourself, the living Word. Please give me the grace to follow and obey You. Help me to feel the weight of disobedience when I stray and let it cause me to repent deeply so that I can get cleaned up and enjoy You again. I want to experience the blessed life of obedience. Amen.
