Today’s Bible Verse(s):

Acts 13:38-39 (CSB): “Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you. Everyone who believes is justified through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.”

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

“This man” being spoken about in our verses for today is none other than Jesus. And, as Paul’s sermon comes to a crescendo, He speaks in these verses of two things that Jesus does in our lives.

First, we are told that it is “through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed.” That simply means that as someone transfers their trust from themselves to Jesus, they are forgiven by Almighty God.

Every single person has broken God’s laws and therefore stands guilty. So, they can either receive the consequences of their guilt in Hell forever or they can let Jesus pay their sin debt for them.

As they trust in Jesus, they are forgiven. Their sin debt is wiped clean.

But forgiven people cannot go to heaven. Only righteous people go. That’s where the second activity that Paul mentions comes in.

Second, Paul says that “everyone who believes is justified through him.” Justification occurs when a sinner trusts in Jesus and is declared righteous by God. It’s not just that the sinner has been forgiven, he is also seen by God as credited with the righteousness of Christ.

In a picture, imagine that when you were saved, you gave Jesus your sin and He gave You His righteousness. Now, you are completely forgiven and are seen by God as having obeyed every single law in the Bible.

It doesn’t get any better than this, friend! Have you thanked Jesus today for what He has done for you?

Thank you, Jesus, for forgiving me and crediting me with Your righteousness. I’m not only forgiven of all my sin, I am also seen by God as someone who has obeyed every single relevant law in Your Word. It is only because of You that I can experience this blessing both now and forever. Thank you! Amen.
