Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
A few minutes ago, I got home from the evening church service at First Baptist Church of Polk City. We had a roundtable discussion about what the Bible has to say about forgiveness.
Once again, we were reminded that obeying God’s commands is for our good. When we do what God has commanded in His Word (our Bibles), we will be blessed.
For instance, as we spoke about forgiveness tonight, we clearly heard the Lord say that we were commanded to forgive.
Ephesians 4:32 (NLT): “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
We can look at that command to forgive and feel like it’s yet one more thing we need to do. We might feel like God is simply laying a bunch of rules on us.
However, only a brief internet search of unforgiveness symptoms clarifies that God’s commands are for our good. It can cause anger, bitterness, and even anxiety and depression. If those emotions are not positively resolved, we can develop high blood pressure and increase our risk for a stroke or even heart attack.
So, as you read God’s Word and come across a command regarding what we are to believe or how we are to act, obey it. Make the adjustments to comply. God knows how we are wired, and He knows how we work best. Doing what He tells us will only increase our happiness.
Luke 11:28 (NLT): “Jesus replied, ‘But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’”
