Script for the July 8th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast.
Introduction
Welcome to the July 8th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast. I’m Matt Ellis, and I’m the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Polk City, Florida.
Today’s reading is Job 36-37. But since there is no New Testament reading today, I’d like to simply pray for you.
If you have questions about anything in the Old Testament reading assignment, please email me at mattellis1997@gmail.com. I may answer it on the next podcast.
Prayer
Ezra 7:10 (CSB): “Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the LORD, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.”
Lord Jesus, thank You for the opportunity You have given us this year to read through Your Word. Help us to be like Ezra, who determined to study Your Word, so that he could obey Your Word and teach Your Word to others.
In Ezra 7:10, we realize that studying Your Word is a noble task. So, help us to take our time in our Bibles seriously. We don’t want to merely read it; we want to understand it.
But we also see in Ezra 7:10 that we are to obey Your Word. It’s not enough to know the facts of our Bible. It only does us good when we apply what we know. So help us, Lord, to repent of any sinful actions or thoughts that are not approved in Your Word. Help us to be more conformed to the image of Jesus as we seek to obey what You tell us each time we read our Bibles.
And finally, Lord, we desire to know and obey Your Word so that You can use us to help others understand what You are saying and make adjustments in their life. Jesus, You have told us in Matthew 28 to go and make disciples, and this is exactly how that happens.
Lord, we cannot adequately study, apply, and teach Your Word unless You help us. And so we are relying upon You.
We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
