Script for the July 9th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast.

Introduction

Welcome to the July 9th episode of the “Enjoying the Bible” podcast. I’m Matt Ellis, and I’m the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Polk City, Florida.

Today’s reading is Job 38-40. But since there is no New Testament reading today, I’d like to simply pray for you.

If you have questions about anything in the Old Testament reading assignment, please email me at mattellis1997@gmail.com. I may answer it on the next podcast.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, as we read in Job 38-40 today, we heard You speaking to Job. You were making it abundantly clear that You are the one in charge. You asked question after rhetorical question to clarify that Job needed to humble himself before You because You were infinitely powerful and wise.

When we think about this, it can be so liberating. Being reminded of Your power and wisdom can allow us to quit feeling the pressure of trying to run our lives. We can simply rest in You, especially since we know You are good and love us.

So, Lord, if we are going through some challenging times right now, help us not to waste our time questioning You. You certainly don’t seem to mind our heartfelt questions. But You don’t want us to get stuck there. You want us just to trust You and obey Your commands. Just as the old hymn goes, You want us to “trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Help us, Lord, to trust and obey.

We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
