Today’s Bible Reading:
Today’s Bible Verse(s):
“Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.”
Genesis 40:23 (CSB)
Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):
The verse I have chosen for today is sad, isn’t it? If we were in Joseph’s shoes and didn’t know the rest of the story, we may have been overwhelmed with despair.
But, we know the rest of the story!
While the cupbearer forgot Joseph, God did not. For some reason, God willed for Joseph to remain in the prison for a little while longer. Maybe God was continuing to forge character in the man that He would soon promote to the second most powerful man in the world. Maybe it just wasn’t the right timing.
Regardless, we know that while a mere mortal failed Joseph, God did not.
Friend, we sometimes feel as if God has forgotten us, don’t we? When things are not going well, we feel that He isn’t answering our prayers, and it seems that He has moved on to work in other people’s lives. It feels like we’re in a prison of our own despair, wondering why God has forgotten us.
Friend, God hasn’t forgotten you. He is so intricately involved in every single event and every single person. So don’t live by feelings – live by faith in what His Word says is true.
He knows you more than you know yourself.
He loves you infinitely more than even your closest family member or friends.
He hasn’t forgotten you.
Use this time, that some people from years gone by called “the dark night of the soul,” to trust the Lord. Rest in His care even though it may seem that He is a million miles away. Rest in His love even though it feels like He has forgotten you.
It is possible that there will come a day when He will move on your behalf and you will better understand why He seemed distant. And if it doesn’t happen during your lifetime, be sure that Heaven will allow for plenty of time to ask the Lord what He was doing in your life. I guarantee that it will all make perfect sense then.
So, with that being the case, why not choose to live today in faith. Trust Him. Rest in His care. Friend, He hasn’t forgotten You. His fingerprints are everywhere around you and in you.

Lord Jesus, help me to remember that I don’t walk with sight. There will be plenty of times in my life when I won’t see or understand everything. So, help me to walk by faith – what I know to be true in Your Word. Help me to reflect on the truths in Your Word that tell me that you’ll never leave me nor forsake me, and that absolutely nothing can separate me from Your love. I want to live in victory even when things don’t seem to be going well. So, right now, I choose to live this day by faith. But I can only do this as You help me. Thank You in advance for enabling me to trust You more. Amen.

I needed that today! Thanks!

You are more than welcome, Rowina. My heart goes out to you. You and Jim are such special people. I know that he is now with his Lord but he’s more alive now than he’s ever been.
