3 Minute Read + Scripture readings

Today’s Bible Reading:

Numbers 36
Psalm 80
Isaiah 28
2 John 1

Today’s Bible Verse(s):

2 John 6 (CSB): “This is love: that we walk according to his commands. This is the command as you have heard it from the beginning: that you walk in love. ”

Reflections on Today’s Bible Verse(s):

What’s love? It’s obeying God’s commands.

Well then, what is God’s primary command? That we love Him and love others.

It’s a cyclical statement.

Love = obey the Lord

Obey the Lord = love

If we love the Lord, we will do as He says. If we do as He says, we will love Him and love others.

It’s pretty clear, isn’t it?

Well, one more thing might need to be clarified. What exactly is the love that is being talked about? Is it a sentimentality that God is calling us to demonstrate?

Nope.

Biblical love is not rooted in the emotions. Instead, it’s rooted in the will. It is a willingness to serve and even sacrifice for others, especially those in need.

Imagine what this world would be like (or even our churches) if we put 2 John 6 into practice.

Lord Jesus, I want to demonstrate that I truly love You (willingness to serve and even sacrifice for You) because of all You’ve done for me. I understand that obedience to Your commands is what allows me to demonstrate that love. And as I obey Your commands, I realize that the greatest command is to love You with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love my neighbor as I love myself. Help me to live in this way. Amen.
